John is a results-driven professional with a deep understanding of sell-side M&A in the automotive dealership space. He specializes in primary market research,financial analysis, and due diligence, helping clients make well-informed investment decisions. With a lifelong connection to the automotive industry, John’s expertise is rooted in firsthand experience—growing up in a dealership family, working through various departments, and gaining an insider’s perspective on dealership operations. John holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and an Associate’s degree in Automotive Marketing from Northwood University, providing him with a strong financial and industry-specific foundation.
A Diversified Background in Automotive & Investment
John brings a unique blend of accounting, automotive, and investment experience to Gill Automotive Group. He began his career in public accounting with Deloitte & Touche, working with automotive OEM clients before transitioning to Nissan Motor Corporation. At Nissan, he held key roles in Contests & Incentives, Regional Operations, and Dealer Development, where he facilitated dealership buy/sell transactions and ownership transitions in the Southeast U.S.
Expanding beyond the automotive industry, John spent the next eight years in investment research, analyzing publicly traded equities on both the buy-side and sell-side. His approach combined fundamental “bottoms-up” analysis with in-depth financial modeling and market research, enabling his portfolio managers and investment clients to make strategic decisions.
For nearly two decades before joining Gill Automotive Group, John co-founded and managed H&M Consulting Group, LLC. As a trusted advisor to hedge funds,private equity firms, and mutual funds, he specialized in primary market research,delivering valuable insights across industries such as automotive, retail,healthcare, industrials, and consumer products. His firm built a reputation for providing actionable investment research and due diligence support in high-pressure environments.
